Ok, I don't want to brag...well, yeah I do, but Jaxon knows his letters! Not ALL of them, but the letters in his name and other random ones. Yes, I know that there are kids his age who know their letters too, can count, etc, but I'm pretty excited that MY child is showing signs of smartness. (I'm starting to understand Kindergarten mothers more and more each day... God help me if I become like some of them! No offense to kinder moms out there, but other teachers know what I mean! )
Now, I don't want you to think that I'm one of those moms who is pushing their child to know everything before he gets to kindergarten. On the contrary, I really don't want him knowing how to read or how to count to 100, he has to learn something from his teacher! I haven't really done anything besides name the letters occasionally, read to him everyday, oh, and there is that little video Meet the Letters that he watches occasionally. He just picked it up one day so who am I to crush his excitement for learning? One day I was wearing an Arizona shirt and he points to the A and says, "a" then points to the N and says "n" and it has gone on from there!
Here is Jaxon in the tub (where we do most of our letter practice) naming the letters.

Don't worry, I will NOT be buying the Your Baby Can Read series!

Why Even Bother?

As any girl out there knows we spend years pondering names for our future babies. We have names picked out before we even husbands! I, being the typical girl, was the same way. Although, I had (and still have) tons of girl names chosen, but no boy names. Brian is the one who chose "Jaxon" well before we even thought about having a baby. He was very adamant about the spelling. It had to be with an "x" because he did not want anyone calling him "Jack". So, as soon as the ultrasound tech told us we were having a boy, Jaxon came to life, it wasn't even open for discussion (believe me I tried, even though I had no other names to offer).

This being the case, why do we hardly ever call Jaxon, Jaxon? Jaxon has more nicknames than any other person I know. Let's go through the list:

Holmes

Holmes Skillet

Junior

Slim

Joey

Little Man

Little Boss

Jax

Buddy

Baby

Bud

Bubster

Bubs

Bubba

Most of these are courtesy of his father, but I am guilty of a few of them. My mom says that he is never going to know his name, which is coming true. The other day we were playing the "Name Game" (whose this, whose that?) When we got to Jaxon he said, "Bubba". So there you go. My mom is right!

We should have just put Bubba Joe Pearson on his birth certificate!

Oh No!

I just found this video from our trip to Tucson for Christmas. Brian & I got a Wii from Grammy Sue and were playing tennis with my family. Jaxon was watching and all of a sudden he starts yelling, "Oh No!" We all thought it was hilarious!
Now, he does it all the time... at very apropriate moments mind you. For example: We were having breakfast at Brueggar's Bagels and he threw up on the seat and says, "Oh no!".
Brian was driving us around town, slammed on the breaks, things went flying in the car and Jaxon yells, "Oh no!".
Jaxon drops his food on the floor during dinner and says, "Oh no."

He Loves Me Not

Tonight, I was sitting on the couch with Jaxon on my lap enjoying every second of cuddling my little boy. I give him a kiss and then we proceed to have this conversation:
Me: Jaxon, I love you.
Jaxon: Yuv oo (love you)
M: Do you love Mama?
J: No.
Pause. Pause. Pause. I'm feeling a little dejected.
J: Ami.
M: You love Ami?
J: YA! (VERY enthusiastically!)
Pause.
J: Huntah (Hunter, Ami's 9 month old daughter).
M: Do you love Hunter?
J: Ya! Huntah. Huntah!
Now I'm thinking he's on a yes roll. My turn!
M: Do you love Mama?
J: No. Hunter.
Off my lap, onto give daddy kisses!
Super!
The thing I have been dreading since I found out he was a boy that evening of January 20, 2008 has happened... he loves another girl more than me! I just didn't think it would happen at 20 months old. I figured I had until at least kindergarten!!

Happy 4 Year Anniversary New Mexico!

Yup, 4 years ago today Brian & I closed on our house and were officially residents of New Mexico. It's hard for me to believe that we have lived here 4 years. As many of you know I came kicking and screaming. I refused to believe that I was going to live in Albuquerque. When I unpacked my classroom at MLK, I purposely left the empty, flattened boxes in the closest... I wasn't going to be here past that school year! I even have a couple of boxes I haven't unpacked at home. Well, last year I came to realize that we are here to stay and moving back to Tucson is a long shot. I will admit, ABQ has grown on me. I even tried green chile and sort of liked it! I can however, do without the winter and the wind in the spring, other than that it's pretty good.
Brain & me in our brand new house 4 years ago today

A few days later.

Do you think New Mexico will buy me something pretty and take me to a nice dinner for our anniversary???

Post It Note Wednesday

Ok, so I have visited 3 blogs tonight and ALL 3 had Post It notes so I didn't want to be left behind. Granted, I am a day late since theirs were all "Post It Note Tuesday", but whatever! This really should be for Mother-of-the-Year Monday. My poor child. Whoever thought it was a good idea for me to have a baby was mistaken!

Farewell 2009!

All Brian and I could talk about the last couple of weeks was how happy we were that 2009 was almost over. It seemed like such a bad year for our family. The only good thing we felt happened this year had to do with Jaxon. Today I thought about EVERYTHING that happened this year and realized it wasn't as bad as we remembered. Let's review...
JANUARY
- I went to my annual "womanly" check up and the mid-wife found a lump on my thyroid.
FEBRUARY
- Jaxon got is first 2 teeth!
- Lola came to visit
- I met Dr. McDreamy & had an ultrasound done on my thyroid

MARCH
- I had a Fine Needle Biopsy done on my thyroid (OUCH!!)- Jaxon learned to crawl forward (literally, minutes before we walked out the door to hear the worst news)- I was diagnosed with THYROID CANCER
- My grandmother, Abuela Chabe, went into surgery and never fully recovered, leaving her on a ventilator.
- Went to Puerto Rico to visit family.
-The Bunch Triplets were born! APRIL
-Brian & I celebrated 5 years of marriage- I had a total Thyroidectomy

MAY
- Jaxon turned 1!

- Jaxon had his first haircut

JUNE
- Jaxon spent 3 weeks in Tucson with Lola & Abuelo
- My teaching partner got a full time job at district office, which meant I had no one to job share with.
- I was on an icky 2 week low iodine diet
-I went radioactive and was isolation for 1 week
- Was told there were no traces of Thyroid tissue left in my body & Dr. McDreamy did the BEST thyroidectomy possible!!
- JAXON WALKED!!

-Jaxon become a swimming school drop out

AUGUST
- We took our first family vacation to San Diego

- I went back to work full-time for a few weeks
- Rebecca & I had a girls trip to Chicago!

- The district hired a teacher to job share with me.

SEPTEMBER

- I turned 31.

- My new job share partner quit (on my birthday, after only 2 days of work!) I had to go full time until we found yet another replacement

- I had my first post-cancer follow up. Dr. Edwards told me I have an antibody which is skewing my blood tests and isn't giving him accurate information on my tumor marker. This means I most definitely have to have ANOTHER radioactive iodine treatment in June & I MUST NOT get pregnant until at least January of 2011.

OCTOBER

- The Bunch Family came to visit

- Brian turned 33 - Jaxon fell in love with horsesNOVEMBER
-FINALLY found someone to jobshare with me! I started working part time before Thanksgiving - Traveled to Tucson for Thanksgiving with the Pearsons & Rios Families

DECEMBER

-Went to the Zoolights in Tucson

- Grammie Sue had knee revision surgery

- Spent Christmas with family in Tucson

So, I guess the good out weighed the bad, but I must say, it was the hardest year Brian and I have ever had. I am thankful for the many blessings we did share this year.

We are most definitely looking forward to whatever 2010 will bring us and we hope it is all good.
